Smoke Chasing Grand Tour would like to invite you to join them for the AMA Sponsored Smoke Chasing Grand Tour 2012 (SCGT12). SCGT12 is a BBQ themed self-paced grand tour designed to combine your love of great food and great riding. Last year, during our inaugural grand tour we were joined by more than 400 riders covering the spectrum of motorcycle brands and riding styles. This year we have changed the scoring format and added some new twists to keep the ride fresh. Our event can be completed in a single state or province or can include every province and territory in Canada and every state in the U.S. for those who enjoy long distance challenges.

The Grand Tour is extremely affordable at only $27 (USD) and features several prizes including free entry into rallies, cash, gas cards, a radar detection system and a spot tracker in addition to the prizes customarily offered by the AMA (Tires, locks etc). SCGT12 will also name a Grand Champion based upon BBQ points earned who will have bragging rights and first choice of prizes.

Please check us out at www.smokechasing.com.

The Colorado Grand National Rally
June 14-17, 2012
Copper Mountain, Colorado

The BMW Riders Association would like to invite you to a very special “all about you” vacation rally. Bring your friends and family. Enjoy cool nights of camping and wake each morning to the site of breathtaking mountains. If you’d like more amenities, Copper Mountain is offering special rates just for our group in the lodges. Maybe you’d like to room with a few friends.

In order to take advantage of group rates or find out more information please call Copper Mountain’s toll-free conference/groups reservation line at (866) 837-2996. Reference Group Code “349” and or group name “BMW RA Rally”. For more information, go to bmwra.org and look under
“National Rally” for room rates.

This will not be your traditional rally. We will not have any seminars this year. We’ve changed the vendor hours so that some evening hours are available. Vendor hours are tentatively Thursday 10-5, Friday 4-9 and Saturday 9-1. This will allow them an opportunity to go out and enjoy the rally too.

We don’t need a beer garden this year. The central meeting area at the Burning Stones Plaza is where we’ll be hanging out with a breathtaking backdrop of mountains on all sides. Since the entire resort has an open liquor license we are free to stroll with our own refreshments. There are bars and restaurants at Burning Stones offering affordable prices. Plenty of tables and chairs are located outside. Don’t feel like riding? The Summit Stage System offers FREE transportation from Copper Mountain throughout Summit County. Hop the bus and go sightseeing in Breckenridge and Frisco.

Do you feel like riding? Wow – will we have the rides! Routes will be available for all different riding levels from adrenaline rushing GS rides to relaxing touring.

Saturday night we’d like you to join us for a 40th anniversary celebration dinner. Enjoy your dinner while we give out some very special door prizes. This is included in your registration fee. Take a look at the BMW Riders Association Facebook page. We’ll post a few photos of our site visit from Copper Mountain.

The March OTL will have much more information about the Colorado Grand National Rally. If you aren’t an RA member or haven’t seen OTL lately, take a look. Save some money on preregistration AND get a great magazine.

Meeting Tuesday, January 10, 2012, 6:30 pm, Legends Bar-B-Q. 11226 N Garnett Rd., Owasso, OK.
Last meeting was December 13, 2011. News had come by that time that BMW of Oklahoma City was closed dated December 8, 2011. There were 10 folks that showed up. 1 even rode his bike! Christmas party was discussed, dismissed. Visiting over, folks left.

Since that time a Christmas Party was decided upon, quick survey, discussion with site folks and emails sent out. And quite a few attended. Hopefully everyone had a good time. The food was good and I for one, did enjoy the evening. Ann Myers was asked to officiate on our ‘Dirty Santa’ gift exchange. She is very good at it too.

Now onto MOA Chartered Club News. In 2009 and in 2010 there was talk about all clubs complying with BMW guidelines for logos. In 2011 our web lady did a lot of work for the club and a logo was finally submitted that the folks at MOA think may be satisfactory to BMW. They are submitting our logo from the club web page as they feel it is the bet way to go. Seems they were quite impressed at MOA. And in December, the following was received from MOA.

To all MOA Chartered Clubs
RE: Winter meeting safety resources

With winter setting in it is a good time to let you know about some resources available for safety training during this down time.

Host an Event
Checkout then MOA Foundation website, http://www.bmwmoafoundation.org/resources/motosafe , for information on the Host an Event materials available to clubs at no charge. To order a kit, contact Tammy Leuthauser at the BMW MOA offices: tammyl@bmwmoa.org (636) 394-7277. The request should indicate the name of the contact person, delivery address (street address for UPS) and date of event. Allow sufficient lead time for transportation and review of the materials. Some materials will need to be returned to the MOA headquarters (at club expense) afterwards.

MOA has several copies of most of these kits but you should inquire as to availability well in advance of your planned event. These kits are a great way to fill winter meetings with something to benefit all your members.

Moto-Safe
In addition, there is a new website with safety information, www.moto-safe.com. You should make sure all your members are aware of this new site. Take special care to insure your club newsletter editor knows about the availability of these articles for your local club publication. Here are the details.

Introducing MotoSafe, a blog project discussing funner, more proficient and safer motorcycling:
www.moto-safe.com
Inaugural articles include Hidden Risk, Command Respect, and The Holy Grail. New articles will be added weekly or so. In addition, moto-educators can peruse Trainer Effect, under the Trainer/Educators button.

BMW MOA Chartered Clubs may reproduce these articles at no cost for Chartered Club communications, such as newsletters, website and such. Write roger@rogerwiles.com with your request.

And along those ideas, what can you as a member come up with to create interest for our meetings? Do you know someone who would be willing to come a give a presentation? Safety talk? Ideas for rides and perhaps put together a ride or wrench event?

Also for those interested, this is for anyone going to National in Sedalia.

At this years national rally in Sedalia we will again have the GS Giant event. In addition there will be street only version, the GT Giant. Both events run entirely by volunteers. We are looking for your assistance in helping get the word out to those who might be interested in helping.

If you have members interested in assisting with the GS Giant event, please have them contact Ian Schmeisser at ians@bellsouth.net. Members wishing to help out with the GT Giant event, please contact David Grant at hawk_racer_843@yahoo.com .

Below is a list of some of the tasks that need volunteers.

GPS route planning experts

Score keeping spreadsheet experts – work with us to tally everyone’s score, we need an Excel guru + a backup

Data wrangler – someone to work alongside the scorekeepers to offload, organize and upload picsand videos.

Tour fixers – people with local knowledge and maybe a car to haul some food and beer.

Day ride leaders

Track construction, maintenance and dismantle – we’ll need 3-4 people here for 3 days ahead of the rally to help build the track (don’t worry, there will be some earthmoving equipment involved!)

Track gate control – for Friday and Saturday

Track open session monitors

Judges and bike picker-uppers

Subject matter experts to give seminars – let us know what you’re interested in doing.

Training assistants – this is still in development under the Rider Performance University program, but let us know if you’re interested in helping out.

Photographer(s) – we need people who can shoot pictures and post on-line. We need people who have nice cameras that and that know how to work all the buttons. Photoshop skills very helpful.

Videographer/editor(s) – we plan to put together an event video and need footage and possibly
editorial talent to help us get it all together.

I know of one of our members that has already responded to this. Perhaps more will also. It would be good to have our club well represented.

Also now that 2012 is here it is time for dues again. Renewing is $20 for the year. Due by the end of March. You can mail to the club or attend meeting and pay at that time.

I found this great article by Jack Broomall and thought I would share it with you. I know most of you still ride during the winter around here but for those who do not, here are is some helpful advice from the Iron Butt memeber and land speed record holder.

Bears have famously earned a reputation for hibernation. Following a summer of chowing down on berries (or hikers, campers, …whatever), theirs is a simple matter of ambling into a den and dozing right off. After a summer of big mile adventures, prepping our bikes for their own winter hibernation is just a bit more complicated. Here are a handful of tips if you are going to put your scooter away for the foul winter months. An aside: if the weather will allow it, and you have the right winter gear, then simply riding year-round is the very best solution. But I digress…

Gonna put your bike away for the season? Then the very first thing to do is fire on down to the gas station and fill that baby up (right to the top mind you!). While at it, think about adding a fuel stabilizer (Sta-bil comes to mind. There are others.) Why a full tank? Simple. You are trying to minimize the air volume in the tank. Air contains moisture. Moisture can cause corrosion on the inside of your (steel) gas tank. `Nuff said. The purpose of the fuel stabilizer is to inhibit the fuel that will be sitting there all winter from becoming the goopy, sticky, varnishy stuff that is famous for clogging up ports, jets, and all those tiny orifices in fuel systems. If you have a carbureted bike, you would also be well-advised to shut off the fuel valve and then run the bike till it quits, leaving the float bowls empty for their long winter’s night. Another thing you might want to consider just after arriving home from the filling station is a quick oil change before you put your baby to sleep. Most riders know that oil both lubricates and cools your engine. Fewer know about your oil’s role as a place for nasty stuff like combustion gases and acids as well as particulate dirt and crap to collect. Stir up all that stuff with your short pre-hibernation ride, then drain it out while it’s still warm. Replace with fresh new oil and all the bad stuff goes away to the recycling center rather than falling out of suspension and ending up in the bottom of your crank case.

Then there is the issue of batteries. Discharged and/or frozen batteries are definitely bad news. If the battery is allowed to discharge too far, sulfation of the plates can occur and this is the beginning of the end for your battery. The very best solution is to remove your battery to a warm location (basement?) and leave it connected to a battery maintainer like a Battery Tender, Optimate, or Battery Minder for the duration. These microprocessor-controlled devices actually do a great job keeping the battery fully charged, but not overcharged as can happen with a simple trickle charger. Some even have a conditioning mode that can further reduce the disabling accumulation of sulfur on the plates. If you don’t want to remove the battery from the bike, so that you can more easily go riding on that freakishly warm 70 degree day in January, then connect your tender/charger directly to the bike; be careful with some modern bikes that have CAN bus controls integrated with the charging system (can you spell B-M-W?). Some of these bikes may require special charging hardware or routines. Check your owner’s manual.

Let’s not forget your tires. First of all, make sure the pressures are set to the recommended values or even a bit higher. Then, if possible, get the load off the tires. Sitting in one spot for the winter can leave you with flat spots that can sometimes take quite a few miles to work out. If you have a center stand, by all means put the bike up on it. If you have both front and rear stands, like a Pit Bull, then use those. If you can’t get the bike up in the air, you may want to consider pushing it around periodically to reduce the risk of flat spotting.

Then, if you really want to prep your bike for the off-season, I’d recommend the fall as a great time to do a brake fluid change. Brake fluid is this amazing liquid that works so well because it’s both incompressible and resistant to heat. It does have, however, this one tiny little undesirable characteristic. It likes to absorb moisture. Left to sit over several months, any absorbed water will end in the lowest parts of the system and will be the start point for corrosive activity in those pretty Brembo Calipers.

You’ll find that other operations, like a coolant change, are often recommended but let’s just call it good here. Spring will come soon enough, and if you just take care of these few items, you’ll be ready to go when the time comes. Unless, of course, you neatly avoid all the nuisance by becoming a year-round rider. Join us. It’s fun!

Well folks after a few technical difficulties, here is the October Newsletter.

Last meeting, October 11th Wonderful climate out here, I even rode my bike! Interesting to find some of the noise and conversation that I recorded before I told the president that we were ready to meet. If I could distinguish more voices, I could tell you who was there. Gonzales, Myers, Moore, Smith, McClung, Dickinson, waitress, a whole bunch of others.Thinking on it, I do believe there was not too much of a meeting rather than more of a talkfest that degenerated into a meeting after a while. This makes the writing of the newsletter easier.

Call to some sense of order by Steve, what was he saying out Mike Christie? No! Mike and Christy Pinion, Kenyon (sorry, I cannot hear OR spell) who are about to fake possession of a GTS and he had several questions.

Several announcement: The Iron Butt organization is setting up a Saddle Sore to be ridden on the 15th in ALL 50 states to celebrate Jack Shoalmire’s life and contribution within the Long Distance biking community. Once person asked how to get 1,000 miles within Rhode Island? Knowing the IBA, that person will have to take meticulous notes and keep every single receipt. Jack was attempting to perform a Saddle Sore in each state, but had not completed the task before he was taken away from us.

Myron and Norma Jo are absent. Either an Abate event, or surgery for her daughter in Wyoming. We’ll see them next month. Several spoke out the Falling Leaf event was fantastic. They had an attendance of 805; their top year was 999! Eight of the club members attended Brad and Rex, Paul, a prior member (we don’t ride fast enough) on his RT and his brother from K.C. were both there. John said it seems like they just paved the roads, some of the trees had started turning, but not as vibrant as they could have been. Chuck piped in. He and Anne were someplace, motor homing around, and eating dinner at the local Cracker Barrel, when a woman stopped Anne. None other than Karen Mahaffey! Apparently returning from a ride up to New York, by herself, for some memorial ceremonies for 911. The firefighters of NYC had invited the Motor Maids. Trailing off conversation…. I think Anne mentioned that Karen probably has more miles on her bike, riding solo all the places she goes, maybe more than Karen Jones. Doesn’t matter, just getting out and riding.

One of our riders had returned from New Mexico and had experienced some cold before getting to Oklahoma. Where was his Gerbings? At home. Opened up the conversation about leaving Sipapu a monthearlier Sunday morning and crossing the pass east of Sipapu at 34-37F, then John fussing about having to take his johns off when it warmed up. Everyone needs to attend the next meeting, on the 8th of November. In the past, when officers were nominated to serve the following year, those in attendance would tend to pick names of members not there.

Sipapu – Bavarian Mountain WeekendMike and Bob met me at the off-on exit of 81st West Ave in Sand Springs and joined them on a ride to Enid, were we found Kendall raring to go. The typical Oklahoma panhandle westward bound on 412 to Boise City, New Mexico, then some back roads up to Raton for motel reservations that evening. I really enjoy not having to put on shoes and pants to make my nightly excursions. Friday morning Kendall and I have coffeeand cereal at the ‘free breakfast’ deal at the motel, and head over to Bob and Mike’s motel. There is a collection of other bikers, and upon returning to my bike, I didn’t notice the collection of people and faces aimed my way. There is a puddle of black oil under my right saddlebag. I quickly announced to the collective they should have put this “oil spill” under the engine where it would have more impact. Everyone groaned, as I got the joke. They picked up their “fake oil spill” to find someone else to play their joke on.Besides, it was too black to come out of a Beemer.

We rode a one-way highway for some scenic viewing before the road turned to gravel. Yet, it was good gravel, hard packed. It did go through, although Kendall and I probably would not have gone that route. We jumped on the interstate to catch US- 64 for the south route to the rally site, and upon slowing down on the exit; the bike was really slowing down hard. At the stop sign, I squirm around and find my rear tire flat. You know, as many miles as I’ve ridden, I’ve never had to fix a true flat in my travels. I guess I’ve been very lucky. I see a memorial parking lot 100 yards up the road, and ride the bike to it. I’m not going to park on the shoulder and expose everyone to traffic going by. There is a nice little split almost in the center of the tread that is just asking for a plug to be inserted. With 3 other experts, I couldn’t lose! I actually have two kits of different styles on the bike, with my air compressor, so I’m set to go. Mike has a nice big Tee handled plug inserter that I need to shove the plug in. The screwdriver handled one is not big enough to apply the force required. When I get home, I buy one. The plug holds, and we head out. I make everyone stop again as we go through Cimarron Canyon State Park. The sun has gone out, we’re climbing in altitude, and I’m getting cold! South of Eagle Nest, the clouds are moving in with a very good chance of rain! Bob takes us down NM-434, Mountain View Boulevard, which gets curvy, narrow (1.5 lanes narrow), wet with rain, and rocks in the road from the rain. I motion with my hand down to an airhead going the opposite direction into a curve where we just passed a bunch ‘o rocks.
We stop in La Curva (I think), for lunch at this little home restaurant that specialize in blueberries, blackberries, or some type of berry, that they harvest from their property. I buy everyone lunch for their assistance with my tire. After filling up our stomachs, it was just a short ride to the rally site. Fortunately, as my suit was wet, as was the inside of my helmet. Either the inside of my face shield was foggy, or my glasses were. Anyway, made it without running into anyone, anyone running into me, or just plain running off the road. The hill to the camping above the resort crossing the stream was muddy from other bikes traversing it. It had been covered in straw, but still looked menacing. Almost dropped the bike as I corrected from lock to lock! The rain would come and go as if it was locked in the valley by the peaks around us. I had heard that a fellow on his dirt bike, or a smaller GS had taken one of the forest roads upone of the peaks, and had gotten into snow! He dropped it turning around.

The Friday night snack of Chili was mostwelcome, and although it is not served as ameal, there was plenty, so I went forseconds, maybe thirds? Vomit was there for the presentation of her million miles on a Beemer. She and Paul had a seminar on Saturday in which they bantered back and forth on who can tell the story better. They’ve been married a longtime, but work well together. I think they were in Montana, and Voni’s odometer quit working. She immediately pulled over and stopped much to Paul’s dismay. He thought it was an emergency. “My odometer stopped odomating!” claimedVoni. She was looking for all those miles for her million-mile award! That was paramount. Saturday morning was dreary, but not raining. After some convincing by others, I braved the muddy hill and safely traversed to the gravel parking lot. Checking my tire,I found it lost 6 psi overnight, so brought it back up to pressure. I was looking for a card for my phone to add minutes, as they were due to expire that day. In the WalMart parking lot in Taos, I attempted to connect with my service. No service. Kendall had no trouble. Of course, he has a contract, where as mine is pre-pay. Since I had no service, I saw no reason to purchase a card that I couldn’t apply anyway. I’ve been unsatisfied with coverage anyway, so I’m gonna change companies. We went through Taos to visit the gorge west of town on US-64. The sun came out and it was getting nice. I stayed up in the rest stop and talked with another fellow on his Harley traveling with his friends from Houston. I think they’re heading for Colorado. This guy makes me look small, and he drives a Mini Cooper at home. He gets about 38, and noticed one day it was getting in the 20s. To the dealership he went, and they asked, “Did you know that you have a flat tire?” Must be a run-flat tire. If he can fit, I may have to look at one.A go-cart on steroids! On the way back, I passed the restaurant Kendall mentioned right smack in the middle of Taos. Gassed up, and got back to the rally. The sun stayed with us and everything had dried out, although a number of attendees have already left due to the weather. They serve a mean dinner! Love it!I won a discount to an intercom system that I should have passed to another looking for one. The certificate made it through the washer, and I was able to salvage the signature, but tossed it anyway. Sunday morning,Chilly on Sunday. Heading east requires going over a pass before getting to the NM plains. I just suffered the short distance with 4 layers under my stitch, and when i tgot to 70 about 100 miles away, I stripped off all my layers and packed them away. I haven’t told anyone about this, but in that town, I was going to go by the grocery store and pick up some orange juice and some fruit for breakfast before heading out. If only I could find my wallet. Crap! It was nowhere to be found. I eventuallyu npacked my tent, looked inside, and therewas the wallet running around the floor ofthe tent that I had left in there while packing up in Sipapu. No wonder the tent was putting up a struggle to get into thesack. I thought it was just my cold fingers. (Also inside was the CD I bought from the Mountain Watermelon Jug Band group that performed for us. The case had cracked, but the CD was still good. Still, the tent expressed a reluctance to get back into the bag. PLEASE! I’M NOT IN THE MOOD! The route taken gets me down to I-40 in New Mexico about 5 miles from the Texasborder. So I get used to the 75 MPH limit, and am immediately shut back down to 70. My GPS quit at the rest stop on the eastside of Amarillo. Since I’m in “get home” mode, I don’t fool with it. With the tankfilled at Taos, I make it to Groom, were both our tanks get filled.

From there, it was a bee line home. Got there a couple minutes after 5 Falling Leaf Kendall and Guzzi rider Randy Morse from Bartlesville, Bob Gillespie, Mike and I met in Tulsa, I think, and left Friday morning for Bentonville. No! That is totally wrong. Kendall and Randy Morse left on Thursday.I think they met up with Bob G. and the three of them made their way east.I left Friday morning, dropped by Bentonville, then headed up the interstate by myself to the rally, and was greeted by everyone else upon arriving. JohnGonzales was already there, camping inthe trees in the party zone. Register, selected the buckets for my tickets to vie for prizes, and off to the barn for dogs and beans. Yum!

A presentation by Slovenia born BenkaPulko, and her 5-year ‘round the world travels on a BMW 650 GS was the evening’s entertainment in the barn after dinner. She made two Guinness records in her travels. See her websitewww.benkapulko.com for more details. Her bike that carried her all these mileswas at the Cape Girardeau BMW dealer. She claims it is all the travel stickers on thebike are what is keeping it together.

The on-site shower facilities were paintedand I had all the hot water I needed. It wasjust the valves that would automatically vary in flow that caught me off guard. Still,I came out clean. The evening was worthy of a light jacket, and sleeping was wonderful, not cold, butcool enough to make cozying up in the bag wonderful. In the morning, my tent was raining in on me. Apparently enoughmoisture was exhaled to condense on theinside walls and eventually drip back down on me.Gonna have breakfast put on by the Lions, but the pall of cigarette smoke generatedby two out of the three gentlemen sitting at the cash box made me wanna go someplace else. The four of us dug out the maps and the committee figured out where we wanted toride that day, and how to get there. We did ride through some wonderful terrain. Is there an ugly part of Missouri? Our only incident is the white pickup that didn’t want to deal with 4 motorcycles so set out to pass us on double yellow line,two-lane road, going uphill. The leadersaid he slowed down, and turned down a residential street in a leisurely fashion when we arrived at the next town. Otherthan that, the freshly paved road went through a canopy of trees, still mostly green that was “soothing to the soul”.Stop for gas and I get a bottled orange juice that settles my stomach.

Next stop, Ste. Genevieve, the oldest town in MO. Afair size downtown with a number of stoneblock buildings, their primary business seems to be antiques and knick-knacks.The route carried us this way, andseemingly a route to the railroad yards tookus down to the great Mississippi. Each of us paid ½ car fare to get across to Illinois. It had been quite a while since I was thisclose to the river, and remember it faster and wider, but we made it across fairly quickly, then road along the levee to Climb the bluff to the main highway that was to take us south. I think I turned the wrong way, as there was a shorter way up there, but I was leading blind. It was interesting to see the pair of towns was some of the buildings were built into therock forming the bluff and the physical edge of the town.Obviously this side of the Miss is used foragrarian purposes, and on top of the bluff, it was more open that I remember on the MO side. The two-lane road was wide and smooth, a bit of a head wind, and not much traffic. We pulled into a fast food chain in Chester for a bite to carry us through to dinner back at the site. South of the city, the road dropped within a 100’ or so of thelevel of the river, and again was scenic with over growth and trees. Further south, the bluffs move to the other side of the road east of us and you see vacant and active fields plus houses bumping up to them. The old bridge back over the Mississippi and been replaced by a new stressedcable bridge that arched high over theriver, and dumped us right into CapeGirardeau. We pulled over to catch ourbearings, then pulled out to the dealership, just a block away from the floodwall of the great river. We were less than a mile fromwhere we stopped. Upon parking, I thought I saw a long time Beemer rider at the outdoor section of the bar next door, then went in to smell all the new rubber in the dealership. There’s the‘round the world bike! Thanks to Bob Gillespie for all these pictures included in the newsletter. That was Karol Patzer having tea next door.I saw a driving light demo board on a wallin the waiting area for the service department. The bulb was not lit, but had a button to press, waiting to be pressed, DEMANDING to be pressed. Not knowingif the board was actually plugged in, I gavein to my manly urges to “PRESS THEBUTTON!” It lit up.

Unfortunately, the woman napping in one of the waiting room chairs was in the beam’s path. It woke herup. She probably was perturbed, but we both laughed and our discussion went beyond “waking me up” to other things while everyone took a break in the building’s only bathroom in preparation to our return to the rally. Again I was in the lead, and punched in the fastest way to return to the rally site in my GPS. There were better ways, as the three behind me figured out and turned off at a nexit on the interstate that I continued on for another 40 miles before turning. Upon arriving at a common intersection an hour later, I had time to stop at a gas station, have the pump reject my card twice, go inside to have the young ladies say there is nothing wrong, to slide my card yet another time, third time’s a charm, me to try and not work, jump back on the bike to find another location, and the other three pass as Ipulled out. Again we separate, and I find another station to fill up at, and apparently drop my drivers’ license. I don’t know it until I checkin with Paula, as she has received a call from the fellow who found it. He’ll mail it. I signed up to volunteer a late shift that was fun, as I talked to various folks, including one of the officers of the St. Louis club who informs me of the rally count. Guests and volunteer get free pizza after the presentation awards, which again were announced by the ringing of the anvil. That is just DAMN impressive. I could feel everyhair on my arms and neck shift as the shock wave hits. Watching it on YouTube is just not the same. The following morning, I manage to get around some traffic the others cannot, get to town, and cannot find the eatery mentioned and head further out. Still nothing, so go to the next town. Park in an obvious place at McDonalds and go in and order. When through, no one else has shown up, so I goofed. Jump on the interstate, set the cruise at 5 over indicated, and pull off again at MP 1 for food and gas next to the Oklahoma border.I was home by 3 and everyone else made ithome safely also.Bob G. took off a bit before the rest of us to do some road exploring in south Missouri and went into a chain food stop, and John G. taps him on the shoulder.

Club Picnic – Spavinaw There was a light turnout at the picnic puton by our club’s Secretary / Treasurer Norma Jo and help Myron Quapaw. They had simple dishes, but good being rich chili and pork & beans with all the fixings of crackers, jalapenias, cheese, etc, also a couple trays of sweet snacks for dessert.Should have renamed this the cookiebrigade, or actually the chocolate chip cookie brigade as Randy Eggert and Ralph Simoni brought cookies (C.C.) also. The both brought male cookies, and Ralph splithis batter in half and did female cookies, too. The weather could not have been better! The temps were around 72 all afternoon, and if you were too cool under the covered eating area, just go out in the sun to warm yourself up. Attending were Norma Jo Nyikos Myron Quapaw Steve McClung Randy Eggert John Dickinson & Guest Ralph & Jo Ann Simoni Jim & Kim Loggin John Moore Mark Welker Steve Lower Doron & Jennifer Grudo Ralph’s friend on his wing.
